The heated debate over who should pay the broker fee for New York rental properties has finally come to an end – New York has passed new regulations that, starting in May 2025, will essentially mean that landlords will be responsible for the broker fee, based on the principle of "whoever hires, pays."

This is another bill enacted by the government to alleviate the pressure on tenants. However, once it is implemented, will it be able to achieve its original purpose?

If New York landlords try to find tenants themselves to save money on brokers, won't New York real estate agents be terrified?!
